Bio
Cecilia DelGaudio has been carving wood and stone since 1980, which she learned in a summer course at Rhode Island School of Design. Her focus has primarily been on the study of the figure and the mastering of the direct-carving method. Her secondary interest has been the discovery and use of sculptural materials and techniques, particularly mold-making processes, which she developed an expertise along with the use of patinas to create high-quality, limited-edition pieces.
While living in Montana early in her career, she sold her first figurative woodcarving in a Bozeman gallery to a private collector. She and her husband moved to the Boston area in the mid-80’s. For many years she worked to balance her art making and exhibiting with raising two children, teaching or assisting in family business.
She has a Master of Science Degree in Art Education from Massachusetts College of Art and a B.A. from Albertus Magnus College. For eighteen years she taught sculpture to adults at the Worcester Art Museum. Cecilia has shown throughout New England with the New England Sculptor’s Association and on her own. She has been active in the South Coast Artists Open Studio Tour since 2019, which is held the third weekend of July and August each year. As a new member of the Providence Art Club she received an Award of Merit in the Fall Show 2021 and continues to exhibit with, and learn from, members of the Club.
